The program emphasizes clarity, accuracy, and gradual mastery, making it suitable for beginners and advancing students alike.
At-Tariq ilā Al-Arabiya (الطريق إلى العربية) – Level One Textbook
For this level, we have adopted the first volume of At-Tariq ilā Al-Arabiya (الطريق إلى العربية) as our textbook. This book is widely recognized among Bengali-speaking learners in the Indian subcontinent. In fact, it has achieved a national standard in meeting the needs of the majority of Muslim students in one country for learning Arabic.
The main feature of this book is its methodology: for a non-Arabic speaker, the learning process begins not directly in Arabic, but in the learner’s native or closest language, gradually moving toward full Arabic immersion. This step-by-step approach—from their own language to Arabic—has enabled translations into English and several other languages worldwide.
Our review indicates that among non-Arabic speakers, there are primarily two recognized approaches to learning Arabic:
1. Grammar-heavy approach: This focuses excessively on grammar, often leaving little opportunity for practical language use.
2. Integrated approach: This balances language and grammar, starting with fundamental and simple concepts and gradually progressing to advanced levels.
At-Tariq ilā Al-Arabiya represents the second, simpler, and culturally relevant approach. It is the product of the author’s 55 years of experience in structured Arabic education and is widely respected for its integrated methodology.
We have adopted the first to third volumes of this book as the progressive textbooks for our Arabic language education across three levels. Alhamdulillah, these volumes are also in the process of being translated into simplified English and Malay, further expanding accessibility.
Although this book is complete as a standalone textbook, the author’s experience shows that the learning experience is enhanced significantly with a companion exercise book. Therefore, we will also use the author’s other book, Al-Tamrin (التمرين الكتابي على الطريق إلى العربية), which is written in alignment with the sequential lesson plan of At-Tariq ilā Al-Arabiya.
We will begin using this exercise book from Level One, Class 8, continuing into Level Two, in alignment with the second volume of At-Tariq ilā Al-Arabiya. This ensures a smooth, continuous learning progression for the students.
