Level One – Tajweed Fundamentals

Level Overview

This level focuses on establishing a strong foundation in Tajweed and correct pronunciation. Students learn the proper articulation of Arabic letters and the essential rules needed to recite the Qur’an accurately.

Guided practice ensures that students develop correct habits from the beginning, preventing common recitation errors and building confidence in reading short passages.

About the text:

Uses specially designed modules and textbooks prepared by Al-Azhar alumni and adapted from the latest Tajwid syllabus used in Al-Azhar higher institutions. Students not only master the fundamental sciences of Tajwid, but are also prepared to advance further into higher education, whether at Al-Azhar University or other universities around the world.

About the Authors

The Tajweed materials used in this level are based on modules prepared by Al-Azhar–trained scholars and adapted from Tajweed syllabi used in higher Islamic institutions.

One of the main references, Tajwīd Rasm ‘Uthmānī, is authored by Abdul Qadir Wong, an Al-Azhar graduate, who presents Tajweed rules in a clear and structured manner suitable for foundational learners.

Additional materials, including Tajwid Notes for the Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate, further support students in mastering the fundamentals while preparing them for advanced Qur’anic studies.

Arif Billah

Hafez Arif Billah is a trained Arabic and Islamic Studies instructor with a strong academic foundation in Qur’anic studies, Hadith sciences, and advanced Arabic language, developed through the Qawmi madrasa tradition and further refined at Al-Azhar Islamic University, Cairo.

He completed Hifzul Qur’an, establishing firm command over Qur’anic Arabic, tajwid, and classical linguistic structure. He later studied the Madani Nisab (3rd Year) at Madrasatul Madinah, an institution founded by the originator of the Madani Nisab—one of Bangladesh’s most respected curricula, especially known for its intensive focus on Arabic grammar, rhetoric, and classical text analysis.

He earned a Dawrae Hadith (Masters-equivalent) with specialization in Uloom al-Hadith, receiving Ijazah in the six authentic Hadith collections (Kutub al-Sittah), reflecting advanced proficiency in Hadith methodology and classical Arabic comprehension.

He has successfully completed Higher Arabic Language and Literature at Markazush Sheikh Zayed, Al-Azhar Islamic University, alhamdulillah, and is scheduled to enroll in the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language at Al-Azhar for the period 2025–2029.

Level Two – Tilawah & Nazira Completion.

Level Overview

This level emphasizes continuous recitation and fluency development while applying Tajweed rules in practice. Students gradually read larger portions of the Qur’an under supervision, developing rhythm, accuracy, and consistency.

By the end of this level, students complete the Nazira of the Qur’an and become comfortable reading independently.

The primary text used in this level is the Holy Qur’an (Al-Qur’an al-Karim), which students read continuously as part of the Tilawah and Najira completion process.

At this stage, the methodology focuses on guided recitation, fluency development, and consistent application of Tajweed rules. Students read progressively larger portions of the Qur’an under supervision, receiving correction and feedback to ensure accuracy and confidence in recitation.

Instruction in this level follows established methods of traditional talaqqi (direct recitation and correction) combined with structured scheduling to help students complete the full Najira in a disciplined and systematic manner.

Abu Umar Abdullah Azzam.

Abdullah Azzam bin Mohd Nazri, known as Abu Umar, is a dedicated Qur’anic scholar and Arabic educator from Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia. He began his formal Islamic education early, excelling in Qur’anic memorisation and classical studies, and completed advanced Qur’an, Tafsir, and Hadith programmes under renowned traditional scholars in Malaysia, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

Abu Umar combines his deep traditional training with contemporary academic credentials, having completed STAM at Pondok Moden Al-Abaqirah, Kuala Lumpur, an intensive Arabic programme at Markaz Lughah Shaikh Zayed, Cairo, and currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Usuluddin at Al-Azhar University, Cairo.

As a Core Qur’an and Arabic Instructor, he brings extensive experience in Tajweed, Tilawah, Nazara, and Arabic language instruction, guiding students with a balance of classical scholarship and modern pedagogical methods.

Level Three – Full Qur’an Revision

Level Overview

This level is dedicated to revision, refinement, and fluency strengthening. Students revise the complete Qur’an with close instructor guidance, focusing on correcting mistakes, improving recitation flow, and strengthening consistency.

This stage helps students achieve greater confidence, clarity, and precision in their recitation.

The primary text for this level remains the Holy Qur’an (Al-Qur’an al-Karim), with emphasis placed on revision and refinement rather than first-time reading.

The methodology in this stage centers on complete Qur’an revision, correction of recurring errors, and improvement of fluency and recitation quality. Students revise the entire Qur’an under close instructor guidance, focusing on precision, rhythm, and consistency.
